About the soul

What is an old soul?

This is a concept I have been obsessing about lately. Old soul. Something about those two words together is beautiful to me. Maybe it's the way they flow together, or maybe it is the concept of it all.
I've searched for what an old soul means specifically, and I can not seem to find a definition that feels right to me, however there is one thing that caught my eye.
"In their social lives, old souls are often loners. They go their own way, caring little for societal norms. They are a rare breed, comprising about eleven percent of the population. On the fringes of society, they obey the rules of their culture only as required to get by without causing trouble. They have very little attachment to encounters of a casual nature, such as coworkers and neighbors. Even their sense of connection to blood relatives is not very strong. They generally shun heavy entanglements with other people. When they do get involved, it is because there is a strong spiritual bond. By this is meant that either there is a karmic attachment (past-life association)." (http://www.michaelteachings.com/old_soul.html)
This is so romantic to me. Old soul.
From this explanation has blossomed my own thoughts on the subject.
Old soul.
One who understands the greatest beauty in life because their senses are keen. One that may have lived previous lives and learned much from them. One whose soul can not be understood because it is far beyond the reach of other souls. Someone who might be subjected to a lonely life because of misunderstanding. Someone who might be afraid to love because of pain they may have known in other times. They do not necessarily have to be of an old age in Earth years. They have very strong connections to very few people, but those connections are almost unbreakable.
Old soul.
Does this mean I believe in reincarnation? In a sense, and to a point. Do I believe in previous lives? Yes.
Old soul.
I sense they exist...maybe in people we least expect, but I do believe they exist.
Old soul.
